Going green with Celebrity Resorts

Down to earth with Celebrity Resorts

At Celebrity Resorts we are dedicated to become environmentally responsible corporate citizens. With the launch of our Celebrity Resorts Goes Green initiative, our objective is to reduce operational wastes and conserve energy through green policies that impact our daily work procedures and habits. Our green plan is an ongoing effort which will grow through time and the education of Celebrity Resorts' employees regarding environmental issues. Our goal is to make the "green difference" on our planet and we will do this by getting "Down to Earth".

It's good business to care about the enviorment

Our green efforts have a positive impact on the communities in which we live and work. It's the latest effort of our community outreach initiatives and demonstrates that we take responsibility for our operations and work towards the betterment of the community and the world in which we do business. In addition, by educating our employees, we influence them to take the environmentally friendly habits home and pass them on to their families.

Another benefit is the reduction in the cost of doing business. As we conserve energy, paper, and unnecessary operational wastes, we've celebrated significant cost savings. That's just good business.

Our green plan

Celebrity Resorts' green plan includes many environmentally friendly policies and procedures. We are proud to relate the following areas that are making the "green difference" and getting "Down to Earth".

We work in a paperless enviorment

  • We do not print unnecessary documents. Prior to printing any document, employees are required to ask themselves, "Do I really need to print this?"
  • We use an electronic filing system - providing paperless access to information.
  • We utilize an Intranet to house all documents, policies and procedures, to eliminate the need to have a paper copy.
  • We purchased a document workflow software system that will enable us to transition all of our forms to fill able, electronic documents with built-in work flow.
  • We create collaboration web sites to share documents among members of a team to eliminate unnecessary printing
  • We have the capability to receive electronic faxes - instead of paper faxes.
  • We have the option to transcribe voicemails - instead of taking notes on paper - we receive electronic notice.
  • We require our employees to utilize direct deposit of their paychecks, and provide access to paycheck and W-2 information electronically.
  • We utilize an electronic application system and require applicants to apply online for all career opportunities within our company.
  • We insist on providing a green fund as a choice for our employees to invest through their 401k.

Waste reduction techniques

  • Recycle paper - we use an environmentally friendly paper shredding company
  • Recycle electronics
  • Recycle aluminum cans and plastic bottles - or eliminate them - where possible
  • Re-using office supplies

Green Purchasing

  • We prefer to work with green vendors if at all possible. We are a green company and want to work with like-minded, forward thinking organizations.
  • We utilize a paperless invoice system - requests and approvals are submitted electronically.
  • We use recycled paper for our letterhead, business cards, and for all printed collateral.
  • We provide our employees recyclable/re-useable cups and utensils in their break rooms, and encourage employees to bring their own re-usable items.

Green Energy

  • We replace regular light bulbs with energy-efficient light bulbs in our offices and resorts.
  • Employees are reminded daily to conserve energy by turning off the lights when they leave an area.
  • We use Energy Star compliant electronics and appliances.
  • We install motion detector lights where appropriate.
  • Our technology department has consolidated servers to conserve energy.
  • Monitors are set to shut off after 15 minutes of in-activity, and systems are set to standby after 20 minutes of inactivity.
  • Employees with computers have LCD monitors and are required to turn them off when not in use.
  • We promote and provide employees a flexible work week, decreasing commutes by 20 percent and reducing harmful carbon emissions.
  • We promote and assist in the coordination of car-pooling for our employees, which decreases gas consumption and carbon emissions.

Green Support Goals

  • Become eligible to be an EPA Green Power Partnership member at the Leadership Level.
  • Purchase Green-e Energy Certified Renewable Energy Certificates to match 60% of the company's total energy usage.
  • Preventing over 1,200 tons of carbon dioxide from entering the atmosphere each year.
  • Equivalent to removing 260 cars from the road each year or the amount of carbon dioxide absorbed by over a thousand acres of trees annually.
  • Supporting wind and biomass facilities located across the country.

Green Communities

  • We are participating in environmental clean-ups in the communities we do business.
  • We encourage green building and sustainable development initiatives.

Down to earth - a "green future" with Celebrity Resorts

We've prepared to make our "Down to Earth" plan stick by continuously searching for ways to increase our contribution to the environment and our communities. In the near future we will implement the following "Down to Earth" strategies to ensure a "Green Future."

  • Implement a "Green Procurement Policy" to ensure all items purchased are from green vendors and are green products.
  • Increase environmental protection awareness by educating our employees about the personal and professional benefits of going green.
  • Continue incorporating environmentally friendly operations and practices.
  • Implement consistent green business policies and procedures at all Celebrity Resorts' properties.

Measuring our progress

Celebrity Resorts is a member of the EPA's WasteWise Program in order to receive technical assistance for implementing the Celebrity Resorts Goes Green initiative of 2008. This will provide measurable data to track progress of the program and to maximize our waste prevention activities. In addition, Celebrity Resorts surveyed employees regarding their attitudes, behaviors, and knowledge about environmental issues. Surveys will be repeated at various time intervals to measure the personal impact on members of our organization.
